It helps to have friends in high places.

Once you make it to the forge and are ready to craft your weapon, you’ll have three choices: a dagger, a sickle, or a greatsword. Since you can only get one Sussur Bark, you must pick between those choices. While it heavily depends on what build you’re going for, there’s a certain winner between those three.

3 Sussur Sickle

The Hardest To Craft, But Requires No Proficiency

Baldur's Gate 3: Every Masterwork Weapon, Ranked (2)

Any of the three weapons would be a great addition because of its silencing effect. It applies on hit, but it does come with a constitution save. Casters are not known for having a high constitution, however, so more often than not, you’ll see the effect land. While this is how it works for all three weapons, the sickle has some other issues.

The sickle comes with the added difficulty of being harder to craft than the other two options. There are plenty of common greatswords in Act One, and even more daggers, but few sickles. You need the common variety for each, nothing enchanted or with a special name. Therefore, the sickles dropped by the Redcaps (which is the most common way players find sickles) do not work. You can find some basic sickles lying around the Druid Grove.

Even once you craft it, the sickle can be somewhat lackluster compared to the other options. The most direct comparison is with the dagger, so when considering the damage and properties, it’s hard to justify choosing the sickle over it. The main use it has is that it’s a basic weapon, meaning there’s no proficiency tied to it. Any character can equip the sickle, but it remains a very fringe use.

2 Sussur Greatsword

Deals The Most Damage, But Only Ideal For A Caster-Free Party

Baldur's Gate 3: Every Masterwork Weapon, Ranked (4)

The greatsword is a popular choice since it objectively deals the most amount of damage. And the classes that would normally want to wield such a weapon benefit greatly from the silencing effect, allowing Fighters and Barbarians to have many casters pinned down, not letting them Misty Step away. Without looting anything, you even start with a perfectly usable greatsword in the hands of Lae’zel.

There are plenty of two-handed weapons to choose from during the game, even when only considering greatswords. The tutorial above the Nautiloid has a better option if you manage to get it. That makes the Sussur Greatsword a less enticing option if you only have one greatsword user, so if you’re only looking to equip one character, it might not be worth the effort. If you don’t plan on having many casters in your party, however, the silencing effect can make many future boss fights a breeze.

You don't need DPS when every attack kills in one strike.

For parties that include several great weapon users, the Sussur Greatsword becomes a very reliable weapon, not only for the limited armaments you'll have for your characters but also as a sidearm for tricky encounters. You can keep it on the inventory of your dedicated tank or Wizard hunter, and when you're planning an assault on too many casters, you'd just equip it and make short work of them. It also works better than the Silence spell since you'd only be silencing your target, not your whole party.

1 Sussur Dagger

Versatile And Balanced, Perfect For Any Occassion

Baldur's Gate 3: Every Masterwork Weapon, Ranked (6)

The real winner among the three weapons has to be the Sussur Dagger. It already beats the sickle in almost every way, and while the greatsword deals more damage, good dagger options are not that readily available until Act Three. Even when you do find special daggers, you can still find a place for the Sussur Dagger in your build.

The dagger can be a great offhand option for Astarion early on, and afterward, Warlocks with the Pact of the Blade can also sidearm it, applying all sorts of debuffs. Being a one-handed weapon, you’d need to find too many better daggers for it to have no place within your party, and even then, you can still save it in your inventory for the odd spell-heavy encounter.

Even Berserkers have a rather useful space for the Sussur Dagger, and they don’t even need it equipped. Just by having it on your inventory, you can use Enraged Throw to silence the far away Wizard as a bonus action and keep hitting your main target as your main action. While this would work with the other Sussur variants, the dagger is still the better choice since it can be used by so many party members.
